What happened to this man is worth sharing, there are stories that need to be told and this is definitely one of them. Marcio Donaldson may look like any ordinary man of his age, but what he did will never be forgotten especially by his nephew.
This is a guy who had a very difficult childhood; he comes from one of those neighborhoods where anything can happen, there is a lot of crime, substance abuse and what not! These are dangerous places and you have to be careful day and night.
He used live in a roach infested apartment with his mother and sister, even if his mother tried her hardest, both Marcio and his sister ended up in foster care. He found refuge in music, he loves to sing and he is very good it. He decided to give it try and finally, last year he decided to apply for American Idol. He made it to the ‘Hollywood round’ but then got sent home after the group performance.
Shortly thereafter, he received some big news, his sister was pregnant… After the baby was born, however, things didn´t go very well for the family. His sister was having drugs problems and she couldn´t take care of the child so the police and the social workers when to visit Marcio and they – Either this child ends up in the system or you take care of him. The baby was only week old, and even if Marcio had no idea of what he was doing, he didn´t wanted this kid to go through the same problems, the same upbringing he had.
“They came to me, they told me I only had 10 minutes to decide or he goes into the system,” Marcio said. He looked down at the baby and made his choice.
“So I said, ‘No thank you, I’ll take him.’ I took that responsibility on because I didn’t want him growing up the same way I grew up. I want to do this for him” Marcio said.
He made a decision that would change his life forever but he also changed the life of that little kid.
Marcio was only 28 years old and he had the huge responsibility to take care of that baby, it was a challenge and he accepted it.
Marcio decided to return to American Idol but this time he was determined to blow some minds, and he sang not only for himself, but also for the 6-month-old nephew that he now calls his son. He took little Rashad to the studio to show him what his daddy could do.
His performance was amazing, he sang his heart out, it was a very emotional performance, one that he will never forget because he was handed a golden to ticket! That golden ticket was not the only thing he took home that day; he got the chance to give his son a new better life.
