Riona was cruelly set on fire — after a year of recovery, she’s finally going to her new home

Riona the Brave Dog: From Cruelty to Healing and a Loving Forever Home

Sometimes the cruelty animals endure is beyond comprehension. One heartbreaking case was that of Riona, a gentle pit bull mix who was deliberately set on fire in Tennessee. Her story shocked people across the world — but today, after a year of intensive recovery, Riona has finally found a safe and loving forever home.

A Horrific Act of Cruelty

In June last year, residents of Nutbush, Tennessee witnessed a horrifying sight: Riona running down the street engulfed in flames. The smell of gasoline made it clear this was no accident — she had been intentionally set ablaze.

Emergency responders rushed to save her. Riona lost one ear to the fire, and her body was covered in severe burns, but veterinarians at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists managed to save her life. She was later taken in by Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, where she began her long road to healing.

The Road to Recovery

Riona required daily medical care, including body wraps and multiple skin graft surgeries. Despite her suffering, she never lost her loving spirit — always wagging her tail and seeking affection.

“She just loves everyone, even after what she went through,” said Mallory Mclemore, one of the veterinarians who treated her.

Her inspiring resilience touched hearts globally. A TikTok video sharing her journey went viral, gaining millions of views. Supporters worldwide sent donations, gifts, and messages of love to help fund her care.

Justice and Awareness

Authorities arrested 43-year-old Quishon Brown, charging him with aggravated cruelty to animals and other offenses related to the case. While awaiting trial, Riona’s story also helped spark change: advocates successfully pushed forward a new animal cruelty bill in Tennessee, showing how one dog’s tragedy could inspire stronger protections for others.

A Happy New Beginning

Now, almost one year after that terrible night, Riona’s life has taken a joyful turn. Tails of Hope Dog Rescue announced they had found the perfect forever home for her.

Her new family has children, other dogs to play with, a spacious yard, and — importantly — medical experience to understand her needs. Volunteers drove ten hours to deliver Riona to her new home, fulfilling their promise of a second chance at life.

“Riona’s story isn’t ending here — it’s just beginning,” the rescue team wrote on Facebook. “She is our warrior girl, and now she finally has the family she deserves.”

Always More Work to Do

In a powerful reminder of the ongoing need for rescue work, the organization revealed that shortly after Riona left, they took in another burn victim in need of care. “There is always another in need,” they shared.

A Story of Hope

Riona’s journey shows both the darkest and the brightest sides of humanity. While one person caused her unimaginable pain, countless others came together to heal her and give her a new start.

Today, Riona is safe, loved, and ready to enjoy the happy life she always deserved. ❤️🐾
